Veterans "Stand Down 2010" To Take Place September 10

Connecticut veterans will have access to dozens of vital social outreach services during "Stand Down 2010" on Friday, September 10, 2010 from 7 am to 3 pm at the State Veterans Home Campus at 287 West Street in Rocky Hill.  More than fifty government and private agencies will be present to provide medical screenings, social service assistance. legal help, job counseling/referrals, VA benefits information and new clothing and personal supplies.  Free transportation is available to the event from pick-up locations throughout the state, including Danbury.

The event is sponsored by the Connecticut Department of Veterans' Affairs in conjunction with state, Federal and private agencies.  Participating State agencies include the Connecticut Departments of Banking, Labor, Higher Education, Mental Health and Addiction Services, Motor Vehicles, Public Health, Social Services and Transportation; the Office of the Chief Public Defender; and the Judicial Branch.   Federal agencies participating in the event include the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, U.S. Department of Labor and the U.S. Social Security Administration.
